Choose the individual or agency you need
Follow the lookup link on TDI’s agent-search page to its Sircon consumer inquiry. Search by name or Texas license number. Keep an individual agent search separate from the agency search; TDI publishes both kinds of records.
TDI describes its agent records as including license type, qualification, status, expiration and active appointments. Read the relevant result rather than relying only on a name in a downloadable list.
Use appointment reports for the company relationship
TDI’s lists page links to active company-appointment datasets for individuals and for agencies. It also links to a report generator that searches a specific license number and includes historical appointments, termination dates and reasons.
That distinction matters if a carrier relationship has ended. A row in a historical report does not necessarily establish a current appointment. Check the dates and report type, then clarify any uncertainty with TDI or the insurer.
Example: the agency matches, the individual does not
An agency search may return the correct business while leaving the person who contacted you unresolved. Ask for that person’s legal name and license number, and check their individual record as well. An agency’s status is not a substitute for matching the person.
If the quote shows a company name you do not recognize, ask which legal insurer issues the policy. Use that identity for the company check; do not assume an agency’s trade name is the insurer.
